Our Story
The Problem
The Bug Beater was conceived after an annual camping trip, meant to be enjoyed outdoors with friends, was instead spent cramped inside a tiny tent, hiding from swarms of relentless bugs who waited outside. Frustrated by the ineffectiveness (and unhealthiness) of traditional methods of bug repellent, we were driven to find a better solution—a solution that would guarantee absolute 100% protection from pests, regardless of location, while still allowing us to eat, drink, and otherwise enjoy the outdoors as usual.
The Solution
After months of brainstorming, we finally came up with a simple yet innovative solution. A camping chair enveloped by a fire-resistant mosquito netting that would fold into itself and could be taken anywhere. We began with a simple sketch on a piece of paper. Which later led to a digital 3D render, which then led to a journey through hundreds of manufacturers, dozens of prototypes, and eventually, the creation of "The Bug Beater."

After finding a supplier willing to bring our vision to life, we decided to test the market with a small initial order of chairs. To our surprise, the entire order sold out within weeks, confirming that we were addressing a genuine real-world problem. However, there was still room for improvement...
Building The Bug Beater 2.0
Inspired by the early success of our first edition, we gathered feedback from our customers and returned to the drawing board to design a new and improved version we were confident in offering to the public. After eight months of redesigning, we finalized 'The Bug Beater 2.0.' The challenge we faced next was that our supplier would no longer produce these in small quantities, and we lacked the capital to meet their minimum order requirement...
Our Kickstarter Journey
That's when we turned to Kickstarter. This crowdfunding platform enabled us to offer 'pre-orders' of our chairs while raising the capital necessary for our first large-scale production as a small business. We launched our campaign in April of 2024 and, to our amazement, raised over $37,000 from more than 260 backers worldwide in just 30 days. This incredible support from our backers inspired us to continue this journey and commit to providing non-toxic, environmentally-friendly bug control solutions for years to come. We plan to maintain this momentum and eventually aim to distribute our chairs in major US & Canadian retailers like Dick's, Bass Pro Shops, Walmart and Canadian Tire.
Our Why
The great outdoors is a source of inspiration, relaxation, and adventure. It's where memories are made and spirits are lifted. But for too long, our experiences have been marred by the nuisance of flying pests. The Bug Beater™ represents more than just a product; it's a movement towards reclaiming our outdoor spaces, towards enjoying nature as it was meant to be enjoyed—freely, fully, and without irritation.
Meet the Founder
Hi, I'm Liam, the founder of Bug Beater Chairs. Growing up in Ontario, Canada, I know all too well how quickly bugs can spoil a perfect weekend outdoors. That's why I decided to design a foolproof solution that allows everyone to enjoy the serene beauty of nature without the constant need to slap, swat, and shoo away bugs. I'm not a big corporation or a faceless brand; I'm a camper, a hiker, a lover of the outdoors, just like you. I don't have a large marketing team or a huge production budget for big product orders. However, with your support, we can spread the joy of spending time in nature, while remaining safe and comfortable at all times. Thank you for taking the time to learn about our journey.
